For some time now you may have noticed that the Guns and Ammo Classifieds section was taken offline, I just wanted to explain the reasoning behind that decision.
With the HB 7042, now Public Act No. 25-43 going into effect soon, I am unsure how it impacts the liability exposure I am putting onto myself but mostly my business, which owns the forum. I hope everyone can understand and can imagine the risks involved with making that section available, especially when the forum itself does not really make any revenue, let alone any profit.
To speak to the revenue/profit of the forum, that’s not really the main objective of the forum, the forum costs are low enough that I can run it indefinitely and cover the costs by myself. If the forum could pay for itself, great, if not, also not a problem. With that being said, I think its safe to say that if the forum is not profitable and generates next to zero revenue, it’s very hard to justify the costs of obtaining an attorney to identify potential risks and liabilities, and ultimately implementing solutions to mitigate them further. Up until now, I have taken all the steps that I could to mitigate the risks, however I feel that with HB7042, it complicates it a step further.
As it stands, the risk to reward ratio of opening the firearms classifieds section up again is mostly all risk especially with low forum engagement thus far, and I am personally not comfortable at this time to entertain the idea of opening myself or my business to that level of liability.
If you are an attorney and would like to provide your services to help with this problem, please reach out, if you aren’t an attorney and have some insight or suggestions, please reach out as well, any and all input in this manner is appreciated.
Truth of the matter is that we live in an increasingly hostile state when it comes to gun ownership, or even just being related to the gun industry . This forum is an online platform first and foremost, in my opinion, my business and I should be covered by Section 230 but it’s become clear that it’s not that simple anymore, not in our state.
I have a potential solution in mind, but again im not sure how it will play out, I need to get in contact
I hope I was able to shed some light on why the category was shut down, if you have any questions feel free to direct them below!
At least we have Misc Classifieds section for the time being, it’s not exactly what most people are looking for but maybe that can carry some weight while the other side gets sorted out. Just know that I am looking into everything I can possibly do to bring the Firearms Classifieds back, but until I find a solution that I am comfortable with, it will have to remain offline.
tldr: CT government bad about guns, makes forum owner scared of being sued for allowing people to sell guns to each other even with all of the protections implemented so far.
