H.B. 5043: The Ban on “Convertible Pistols”

This highly-discussed bill proposes a ban on many models of striker-fired pistols because of their supposed “readily convertible” ability to become illegal machineguns. This includes Generation 1-5 Glocks, any clones of such pistols, and MANY more models that have yet to be named. Here’s some talking points to get you started…read the bill here.

  • Glock-styled pistols are carried everyday by millions of civilian Americans, and far exceed the standard for Common Use protection defined by D.C. v. Heller.
  • This makes the most economical and tested firearms unavailable to the average permitholder.
  • “Readily convertible” is subjective, and both legally and technically vague.

H.B. 5436: An Act Concerning “Firearms Definitions”

This new bill redefines “firearm” and adds barrels, slides, cylinders, and a newly-defined unfinished frame/receiver. This law would subject ALL of these items to regulation as firearms, and adds an even more vague definition of “unfinished” receiver. Here’s some talking points to get you started…read the bill here.

  • None of these items are firearms.
  • Law-abiding gunowners would have to navigate ALL firearms regulations in regards to safe storage, carry, transport, and more for these items.
  • Have a shotgun that comes with multiple barrels? That would be multiple transfers, at ($25-75) per barrel!
  • Having to transfer all of these parts through a FFL would pile up transfer fees, and put strain on our local industry for additional bookkeeping and more.
  • This bill would overwhelm the State Police with an even higher volume of background checks.
