A table containing common abbreviations and their meaning.

| AOW | Any Other Weapon (NFA) |
| AW | Assault Weapon |
| AWB | Assault Weapon Ban |
| AWC | Assault Weapon Certificate |
| DESPP | Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection |
| FFL | Federal Firearms License |
| LCM | Large Capacity Magazine |
| LGS | Local Gun Store |
| NFA | National Firearms Act |
| PP | Pistol Permit |
| SBR | Short Barreled Rifle |
| SBS | Short Barreled Shotgun |
| SFLU | Special Licensing and Firearms Unit |
| SOT | Special Occupational Taxpayer |

# Dictionary

A table containing brief explanation to some commonly used phrases.

| Word | Meaning |
| --- | --- |
| 4473 | Firearm Transaction Record form, federal background check form filled out at the time of firearm transfer. |
| DPS-3 | Sale or Transfer of All Firearms form. State form filled out at the time of firearm transfer. |
| From 1 | ATF Form 1 - Application to Make and Register a Firearm. Submitted when one wants to create an SBR, SBS or a Suppressor |
| Form 4 | ATF Form 4 - Application for Tax Paid Transfer and Registration of Firearm. Submitted when one wants buy a SBR, SBS or a Suppressor from a gun store. |
| Other | Firearm classification which is neither a rifle nor a pistol. Common type of firearm sold in CT between the 2013 AWB and 2023 AWB. No longer legal configuration as of June 6th 2023. |
| Preban | Firearm manufactured pre 1994 AWB, No longer legal in CT as of 2023. Also used to refer to registered Assault Weapons post 2013 and 2023 ban. |
